Non è capace di restare dove – prigioniero
è colui che non sa cogliere la vera libertà .

Non si è liberi quando facendo quel che si desidera,
si fa del male a se stessi, si sacrificano gli altri ;
ma è libero colui che – consapevolmente –
sa dirigere le proprie scelte verso la volontà

Discorso all’umanità

Tutti noi esseri umani dovremo aiutarci sempre. Dovremo godere soltanto della felicità del prossimo, non odiarci e disprezzarci l’un l’altro. In questo mondo c’è posto per tutti, la natura è ricca, è sufficiente per tutti noi, la vita può essere felice e magnifica, ma noi lo abbiamo dimenticato.
L’avidità ha avvelenato i nostri cuori, ha precipitato il mondo nell’odio, ci ha condotti a passo d’oca a far le cose più abbiette: abbiamo i mezzi per spaziare, ma ci siamo chiusi in noi stessi. La macchina dell’abbondanza ci ha dato povertà, la scienza ci ha trasformato in cinici, l’abilità ci ha resi duri e cattivi.
Pensiamo troppo e sentiamo poco. Più che macchinari ci serve umanità, più che abilità ci serve bontà e gentilezza. Senza queste qualità la vita è violenza e tutto è perduto. L’aviazione e la radio hanno riavvicinato le genti, la natura stessa di queste invenzioni reclama la bontà nell’uomo, reclama la fratellanza universale, l’unione dell’umanità. Perfino ora la mia voce raggiunge milioni di persone nel mondo, milioni di uomini, donne e bambini disperati, vittime di un sistema che impone agli uomini di torturare e imprigionare gente innocente. A coloro che mi odono, io dico, non disperate! L’avidità che ci comanda è solo un male passeggero, l’amarezza di uomini che temono le vie del progresso umano. L’odio degli uomini scompare insieme ai dittatori e il potere che hanno tolto al popolo ritornerà al popolo e qualsiasi mezzo usino la libertà non può essere soppressa.

Soldati! Non cedete a dei bruti! Uomini che vi disprezzano e vi sfruttano, che vi dicono come vivere, cosa fare, cosa dire, cosa pensare, che vi irreggimentano, vi condizionano, vi trattano come bestie. Non vi consegnate a questa gente senza un’anima, uomini macchina, con macchine al posto del cervello e del cuore. Voi non siete macchine, voi non siete bestie, siete uomini! Voi avete l’amore dell’umanità nel cuore, voi non odiate, coloro che odiano sono quelli che non hanno l’amore altrui. Soldati! Non difendete la schiavitù, ma la libertà! Ricordate nel Vangelo di S. Luca è scritto «Il Regno di Dio è nel cuore dell’uomo». Non di un solo uomo o di un gruppo di uomini, ma di tutti gli uomini. Voi! Voi, il popolo, avete la forza di creare la macchina, la forza di creare la felicità. Voi, il popolo, avete la forza di fare che la vita sia bella e libera, di fare di questa vita una splendida avventura. Quindi in nome della democrazia uniamo questa forza, uniamoci tutti! Combattiamo per un mondo nuovo che sia migliore, che dia a tutti gli uomini lavoro, ai giovani un futuro, ai vecchi la sicurezza.
Promettendovi queste cose dei bruti sono andati al potere, mentivano! Non hanno mantenuto quelle promesse e mai lo faranno! I dittatori forse sono liberi perché rendono schiavo il popolo. Allora combattiamo per mantenere quelle promesse, combattiamo per liberare il mondo, eliminando confini e barriere, eliminando l’avidità, l’odio e l’intolleranza. Combattiamo per un mondo ragionevole, un mondo in cui la scienza e il progresso diano a tutti gli uomini il benessere.
Soldati, nel nome della democrazia siate tutti uniti!

Anna, puoi sentirmi? Dovunque tu sia, abbi fiducia, guarda in alto Anna. Le nuvole si diradano, comincia a splendere il sole. Prima o poi usciremo dall’oscurità verso la luce e vivremo in un mondo nuovo, un mondo più buono, in cui gli uomini si solleveranno al di sopra della loro avidità, del loro odio della loro brutalità. Guarda in alto Anna, l’animo umano troverà le sue ali e finalmente comincerà a volare, a volare sull’arcobaleno verso la luce della speranza, verso il futuro, il glorioso futuro che appartiene a te, a me, a tutti noi. All of us human beings we should always help. We will only enjoy the happiness of others, do not hate us and despise one another. In this world there is room for everyone, nature is rich enough for all of us, life can be free and beautiful, but we have forgotten.
Greed has poisoned our hearts, has barricaded the world with hate, has brought us a goose-stepping to make things worst: We have developed speed but we have shut ourselves. The machine has given us abundance poverty, science has turned into cynics, the ability has made us hard and unkind.
We think too much and feel too little. More than machinery we need humanity more than cleverness we need kindness and gentleness. Without these qualities, life will be violent and all is lost. The airplane and the radio have brought us closer together, the very nature of these inventions cries out for the goodness in men, cries out for universal brotherhood, the unity of humanity. Even now my voice is reaching millions of people around the world, millions of men, women and children, victims of a system that makes men torture and imprison innocent people. To those who can hear me, I say, do not despair! The greed that hurt us is only a passenger, the bitterness of men who fear the way of human progress. The hate of men will pass and dictators and the power they took from the people return to the people and use whatever means freedom can not be deleted.

Soldiers! Do not give yourselves to brutes! Men who despise you and exploit them, telling you how to live, what to do, what to say, what to think, that regiment, will condition, treat you like cattle. Do not give yourselves to these unnatural, machine men, with machines in place of the brain and heart. You are not machines, you are not cattle, you are men! You have the love of humanity in my heart, you do not hate those who hate are those who do not have the love of others. Soldiers! Do not fight for slavery, but freedom! Remember in the Gospel of St. Luke wrote “The Kingdom of God is within man.” Not one man or group of men but of all men. You! You, the people have the power to create the machine, the power to create happiness. You, the people have the power to make life free and beautiful, to make this life a wonderful adventure. So in the name of democracy join this force, join all! We fight for a new world that is better, which gives all men work, young people a future and old age security.
Promise of these things, brutes have risen to power, they lied! Have not kept those promises, and never will! The Dictators free themselves but they enslave the people.Now let us fight to fulfill that promise, we fight to free the world, removing boundaries and barriers, eliminating greed, hatred and intolerance. We fight for a sensible world, a world where science and progress will lead to all men welfare.
Soldiers, in the name of democracy let us all unite!

Ho incassato da sempre, fin da bambino. Non so per quale motivo, ma ero portato per farmi odiare. Certo, i difetti li abbiamo tutti. Ma, c’era qualcosa che mi faceva fare sempre capolino dove le persone odiano e disprezzano. Ed io soffrivo silente. Sopportavo.
Oggi, ringrazio sia andata così. Poiché mi ha rafforzato al punto che sono capace di meraviglie solo con la forza di volontà…

Lasciar andare non è qualcosa che facciamo, è qualcosa che accade quando capiamo che quello che facciamo causa sofferenza. Finché siamo intrappolati nel cercare di lasciar andare, l’io che sta cercando di lasciar andare crea squilibrio. Ma anche non provarci affatto non è corretto. Cosa possiamo fare per realizzare il grande compito della ricerca della libertà? Che cosa significa fare un retto sforzo? Un aspetto del retto sforzo consiste nell’esaminare il tipo di sforzo che stiamo già facendo. Ci domandiamo: quello che facciamo è una forma di
egocentrismo, o viene da un luogo più profondo, più quieto, un
semplice interesse verso il vero? Sappiamo di voler essere liberi dalla sofferenza, ma è davvero utile il modo in cui lo vogliamo? Anche voler essere liberi può creare ostacoli se ci aggrappiamo a tale desiderio. Quando non ne posso più, esco, faccio due passi. Cerco un luogo poco o niente frequentato ed urlo. Se riesco non imprecò, non più almeno. Trovo un modo per sfogare il mio malcontento, e rimedio magari leggendo o ascoltando musica. Una cosa molto importante, che condivido con voi, ho imparato:

14 PRECETTI del maestro Thich Nhat Hanh

1. Non adorerò ciecamente e non mi vincolerò a nessuna dottrina, credenza o ideologia, compreso il buddismo. Considero ogni sistema di pensiero una guida lungo la via, e non ritengo nessuno di essi la verità assoluta.
2. Non penserò che la conoscenza che attualmente possiedo sia la verità assoluta e immutabile. Eviterò di avere una mente ristretta, limitata alle mie opinioni attuali. Praticherò il non attaccamento alle credenze per rimanere aperto al punto di vista degli altri. La verità si trova nella vita, non nelle nozioni intellettuali. Mi manterrò sempre disponibile a imparare dalla vita, osservando costantemente la realtà in me stesso e nel mondo.

Così risveglierò me stesso e gli altri alla realtà della sofferenza nel mondo.
5. Non accumulerò ricchezza mentre milioni di persone soffrono la fame. Non porrò come scopo della mia vita la fama, il profitto, le ricchezze o il piacere dei sensi. Vivrò in modo semplice, condividendo il mio tempo, la mia energia e le mie risorse materiali con coloro che ne hanno davvero bisogno.
6. Non alimenterò rabbia e odio. Non appena rabbia e odio insorgeranno, praticherò la meditazione sulla compassione allo scopo di comprendere profondamente la persona che ne è stata occasione. Mi eserciterò a guardare gli altri esseri con gli occhi della compassione.
7. Non mi disperderò nella distrazione e nei molteplici stimoli esterni. Praticherò l’attenzione cosciente al respiro allo scopo di ricomporre la mente, di sviluppare la consapevolezza, la concentrazione e la comprensione.
8. Non proferirò parole che possano creare discordia e causare fratture nella comunità. Farò tutto il possibile per riconciliare e risolvere i conflitti, anche il più piccolo.
9. Non dirò parole non veritiere per interesse personale ne’ per impressionare gli altri. Non proferirò parole che causino divisione e odio. Non diffonderò notizie di cui non ho io stesso certezza. Non criticherò e non condannerò fatti non accertati. Parlerò sempre in modo veritiero e costruttivo. Avrò il coraggio di pronunciarmi apertamente in tutti i casi di ingiustizia, anche quando ciò possa minacciare la mia sicurezza personale.
10. Non userò la comunità per mio personale vantaggio o profitto, e non cercherò di trasformarla in un partito politico. In quanto membro di una comunità religiosa, prenderò comunque una ferma posizione contro l’oppressione e l’ingiustizia, e mi sforzerò di cambiare la situazione senza cadere in conflitti di parte.
11. Non eserciterò una professione dannosa agli uomini o alla natura. Non investirò denaro in attività economiche che privino altri esseri delle risorse vitali. Sceglierò un lavoro in armonia con la realizzazione del mio ideale di compassione.
12. Non ucciderò e non permetterò ad altri di uccidere. Mi adoprerò con ogni mezzo per proteggere la vita e prevenire la guerra.
13. Non mi approprierò quello che di diritto appartiene agli altri. Rispetterò la proprietà altrui, ma mi batterò perché nessuno si arricchisca provocando sofferenza agli uomini e agli esseri viventi.
14. Non maltratterò il mio corpo, ma lo tratterò con rispetto, senza considerarlo un semplice strumento. Conserverò le energie vitali (del sesso, del respiro e dello spirito) per la realizzazione della via. Mi asterrò dalla sessualità disgiunta dall’amore e dal reciproco impegno. Considererò i rapporti sessuali in relazione alla sofferenza che potrebbero provocare. Rispetterò la libertà e gli impegni assunti dagli altri, per preservarne la felicità. Sarò pienamente consapevole della responsabilità di mettere al mondo nuove vite, e mediterò sul mondo in cui intendo far nascere nuovi esseri.

Do not t

hink that the knowledge you presently possess is changeless, absolute truth. Avoid being narrow-minded and bound to present views. Learn and practice non-attachment from views in order to be open to receive others’ viewpoints. Truth is found in life and not merely in conceptual knowledge. Be ready to learn throughout our entire life and to observe reality in yourself and in the world at all times.

Do not force others, including children, by any means whatsoever, to adopt your views, whether by authority, threat, money, propaganda, or even education. However, through compassionate dialogue, help others renounce fanaticism and narrowness.

Do not avoid contact with suffering or close your eyes before suffering. Do not lose awareness of the existence of suffering in the life of the world. find ways to be with those who are suffering by all means, including personal contact and visits, images, sound. By such means, awaken yourself and others to the reality of suffering in the world.

Do not accumulate wealth while millions are hungry. Do not take as the aim of you life fame, profit, wealth, or sensual pleasure. Live simply and share time, energy, and material resources with those who are in need.

Do not maintain anger or hatred. As soon as anger and hatred arise, practice the meditation on compassion in order to deeply understand the persons who have caused anger and hatred. Learn to look at other beings with the eyes of compassion.

Do not lose yourself in dispersion and in your surroundings. Learn to practice breathing in order to regain composure of body and mind, to practice mindfulness, and to develop concentration and understanding.

Do not utter words that can create discord and cause the community to break. Make every effort to reconcile and resolve all conflicts, however small.

Do not say untruthful things for the sake of personal interest of to impress people. Do not utter words that cause diversion and hatred. Do not spread news that you do not know to be certain. Do not criticize or condemn things you are not sure of. Always speak truthfully and constructively. Have the courage to speak out about situations of injustice, even when doing so may threaten your own safety.

Do not use the Buddhist community for personal gain or profit, or transform your community into a political party. A religious community should, however, take a clear stand against oppression and injustice, and should strive to change the situation without engaging in partisan conflicts.

Do not live with a vocation that is harmful to humans and nature. Do not invest in companies that deprive others of their chance to life. Select a vocation which helps realize your ideal compassion.

Do not kill. Do not let others kill. Find whatever means possible to protect life and to prevent war.

Possess nothing that should belong to others. Respect the property of others but prevent others from enriching themselves from human suffering or the suffering of other beings.

Do not mistreat your body. Learn to handle it with respect. Do not look on your body as only and instrument. Preserve vital energies (sexual, breath, spirit) for the realization of the Way. Sexual expression should not happen without love and commitment. In sexual relationships be aware of future suffering that may be caused. To preserve the happiness of others, respect the rights and commitments of others. Be fully aware of the responsibility of bringing new lives into the world. Meditate on the world into which you are bringing new beings.

Do not believe that I feel that I follow each and every of these precepts perfectly. I know I fail in many ways. None of us can fully fulfill any of these. However, I must work toward a goal. These are my goal. No words can replace practice, only practice can make the words.

Il genere umano può liberarsi della violenza soltanto ricorrendo alla non-violenza. L’odio può essere sconfitto soltanto con l’amore. Rispondendo all’odio con l’odio non si fa altro che accrescere la grandezza e la profondità dell’odio stesso. L’amore è libertà dalla sofferenza – dai condizionamenti, dalle paure, dall’attaccamento, per essere capaci di offerta incondizionata.

La violenza è un percorso distorto che fa credere che dominare gli altri, rubarne il valore è posserderli….
Dobbiamo imparare a dominare noi stessi, le inclinazioni sbagliate per comprendere il vero significato di non violenza.

Tu che guardi il mondo
attraverso la tua unica visione:
dove tutto è possesso
dove tutto t’appartiene
e cieco non stracci il velo
dell’unica cosa che ti rappresenta
in un pugno chiuso che credi pieno
e non sai cogliere in un respiro l’essenza

Ogni tuo passo ripropone
e genera solo distruzione
perchè t’aggrappi
a cose che non possono durare
ed accumuli in in angolo
le esperienze vecchie
dalle quali ti lasci condizionare

Illusione e velo
che di Maya ha il nome
danza delle ombre
che non allieta ma confonde

che non scalfisce nulla
ma costruisce nuove mura
in un bozzolo intessuto di paura

Ogni momento è propizio
per guardare nel fondo del tunnel

Giant is your ego

but build new walls
woven into a cocoon of fear

Every moment is propitious
to look at the bottom of the tunnel

Nel sussurro senza parole

il fremito di onde leggere
l’increspare dell’attimo
oltrepassando il mondo
– essenza viva –

Lasciar andare non significa non interessarsi,
ma smettere di credere di aver potere al posto degli altri.
Lasciar andare non significa fregarsene,
ma lasciare che l’esperienza sia consigliera, non le parole.
Lasciar andare non è vittimismo,
ma la profonda certezza che spesso gli effetti non dipendono da noi.
Lasciar andare non corrisponde ad una critica,
ma ad un atto di estrema fiducia.
Lasciar andare non è imporre nuove catene,
ma permettere alla libertà di ognuno di esprimersi.
Lasciar andare non è ancorarsi al passato,
ma vivere pienamente un nuovo futuro.
