Il leone ed il topo
Mentre un leone sonnecchiava nel bosco, topi di campagna facevano baldoria. Uno di loro, un po’ sbadato, nel correre si buttò su quel corpo sdraiato. Povero disgraziato! Il leone con una rapida zampata lo afferrò deciso a sbranarlo. Il topolino supplicò clemenza e promise, in cambio della libertà, eterna riconoscenza. Il re della foresta scoppiò a ridere e lo risparmiò.
Una sera, poco tempo dopo, il leone, attraversando la foresta, cadde in una rete tesa dai cacciatori, si impigliò nelle maglie e rimase prigioniero. Il topolino udì i suoi ruggiti di lamento e accorse in suo aiuto. Senza perdere tempo, con i suoi dentini aguzzi si mise a rosicchiare la corda.
Dopo averlo liberato gli disse: – Ecco! Tempo fa hai riso di me perché credevi di non poter ricevere la ricompensa del bene che mi hai fatto. Ora sai che anche un piccolo topolino può essere d’aiuto ad un grande leone! –

The lion and the mouse
While a lion dozing in the woods, field mice they whooped. One of them, a little ‘careless, as he ran and fell on his body lying. Poor wretch! The lion with a quick paw grabbed decided to tear him to pieces. The mouse begged forgiveness and promised, in exchange for freedom, eternal gratitude. The king of the forest laughed and spared him.
One evening, shortly after, the lion, through the forest, fell into a net spread by hunters, got entangled in the net and remained a prisoner. The mouse heard his roars of complaint and came to his rescue. Wasting no time, with its sharp teeth began to gnaw the rope.
After freeing him said – Here! Some time ago you laughed at me because you thought you could not receive the reward of the good you did to me. Now you know that even a small mouse can help to a great lion! –
