I Matching Mole sono un gruppo inglese di rock progressivo fondato da Robert Wyatt verso la fine di ottobre del 1971, dopo la sua partenza dai Soft Machine, e costituiscono una delle cult band della scena di Canterbury.
Il nome del gruppo è un’omofonia dell’espressione francese Machine Molle (macchina molle), la traduzione letterale di Soft Machine, che era originariamente il titolo di un libro dello scrittore beat William S. Burroughs.
Lo stile musicale riprende solo in parte quello dei Soft Machine, sia per la diversa composizione dell’organico (introduzione della chitarra elettrica, assenza del sax), che per la differente impostazione data da Wyatt, uscito dai Soft quando questi si erano indirizzati su una fusion austera ed impersonale. Le scelte musicali di Mike Ratledge, diventato il leader del gruppo, non lasciavano inoltre spazio ai vocalizzi ed alla fantasia espressiva di Wyatt, che con i Matching Mole prosegue sulla strada della sperimentazione intrapresa nel 1970 con il primo lavoro da solista, The End of an Ear. In un’intervista, Wyatt avrebbe inoltre affermato che con gli altri componenti dei Matching Mole poteva parlare e confrontarsi, alludendo alla mancanza di dialogo nei Soft Machine.
Anche il sound dei Matching Mole sarà contraddistinto dalle contaminazioni della fusion, ma lascerà grande spazio alla ricerca di nuove frontiere musicali ed alle capacità di improvvisazione degli artisti, permettendo a Wyatt di esprimere al meglio il suo talento vocale. Nei pochi album prodotti dalla band si trovano già alcune delle particolarità che caratterizzeranno la sua carriera solista, come alcune trovate armoniche e gli originali vocalizzi.
Wyatt invita l’ex-membro dei Caravan Dave Sinclair ad unirsi al gruppo, dopo che questi aveva collaborato nel suo album d’esordio, i due erano anche stati membri, non contemporaneamente, dei Wilde Flowers, la band progenitrice della musica di Canterbury. Phil Miller aveva suonato con i Delivery dell’amico di Wyatt Pip Pyle. Bill MacCormick era dai tempi dei Wilde Flowers amico ed ammiratore di Wyatt, e lo aveva di recente impressionato durante un concerto della sua band, i Quiet Sun.

Il potere del silenzio
Voi siete al massimo del vostro potere quando siete in silenzio, vigili e in attesa che le cose si svolgano. E’ quando siete in silenzio che state esprimendo la vostra fede e fiducia nell’Universo e in voi stessi. Le vostre parole e i vostri pensieri hanno potere, ma la vostra capacità di stare in silenzio ha ugualmente potere. Sia che stiate esprimendo un desiderio o parlando a un’altra persona, quando i risultati non arrivano immediatamente non state agendo con maggior potere quando continuate a chiedere e a insistere. I miracoli si manifestano infatti nel silenzio della vostra fede e della vostra fiducia.
Quando siete in uno stato di dialogo costante, sia dentro voi stessi che con altri, state esprimendo la vostra paura e il vostro dubbio. Voi non siete nemmeno in grado di udire i messaggi delle vostre Guide e dei vostri Angeli, poiché essi vi parlano dal vostro silenzio. La mente vi fornirà molte ragioni per spiegarvi perché siete senza potere e non efficienti. L’essere capaci di tacitare questi pensieri, e di essere in tranquillità pieni di fede e fiduciosi, è il solo modo per realizzare la pienezza del vostro potere.
Lo spazio in cui potete essere in silenzio è il posto dove vi connettete all’amore incondizionato e all’abbondanza dell’Universo. In questo spazio sapete che i vostri desideri vengono sempre appagati e che siete amati in modo incondizionato. Quando non potete trovarvi a vostro agio nel silenzio, siete fuori dello spazio della fede e della fiducia. Quando potete stare in silenzio, non chiedendo o rammentando all’Universo quello che avete richiesto, non essendo impazienti o esigenti, voi rafforzate la vostra connessione con la Fonte.
Lo spazio del silenzio è pure lo spazio della gratitudine, poiché sapete che avete già quanto desidera il vostro cuore e, mentre accettate il vostro potere, potete scegliere altre cose. La promessa dell’amore incondizionato e dell’abbondanza illimitata in tutte le buone cose è sempre valida per voi: ed essa si manifesta quando potete essere in silenzio, consentendo così alla vostra fede e fiducia di parlare per voi. Questa settimana praticate lo stare in silenzio. Quando sono presenti dubbio e paura, ricordatevi che le vostre richieste sono state udite e che si è operato su di esse. Esse sono in viaggio verso di voi e potete mostrare la vostra fede e fiducia con l’essere silenziosi in attesa e con l’osservare come i vostri miracoli si manifestano.

The Power of Silence
You are the most of your power when you are silent, and watchful waiting for things to take place. And ‘when you are silent you are expressing your faith and trust in yourself and the universe. Your words and your thoughts have power, but your ability to be silent still has power. Whether you are expressing a desire or talking to another person, when the results do not come immediately you are not acting with greater power when you continue to ask and insist. Miracles occur because the silence of your faith and your trust.
When you are in a state of constant dialogue, both within yourself and with others, you are expressing your fear and your doubt. You are not even able to hear the messages of your guides and your angels, because they talk to you by your silence. The mind will give you many reasons to explain why you are powerless and inefficient. Being able to silence these thoughts, and be quietly confident and full of faith, is the only way to realize the fullness of your power.
The space where you can be silent is the place where you connect to unconditional love and abundance of the Universe. In this space know that your wishes are always fulfilled and that you are loved unconditionally. When you can not be comfortable in the silence, you’re out of the area of faith and trust. When can you be silent, not asking or reminding the universe what you need, not being impatient or demanding, you strengthen your connection with Source.
The space of silence is also the space of gratitude, because you already know what your heart desires, and as you accept your power, you can choose other things. The promise of unconditional love and unlimited in abundance all the good things is always good for you and it occurs when you can be silent, allowing your faith and trust to speak for you. This week, practice being in silence. When you have doubt and fear, remember that your requests have been heard and that has worked on them. They are traveling towards you and you can show your faith and trust by being silent and waiting to see how your miracles occur.
