Il simbolo Om ॐ è una sillaba del sanscrito, sacra a numerose religioni orientali: buddismo e induismo, ma anche Giainismo, Sikhismo e Brahmanesimo. In italiano è femminile: si legge infatti “la om”.

Conosciuta anche come pranava mantra, mantra primordiale, accompagna quasi tutte le preghiere dei credenti di queste discipline da millenni.

Simbolo om significato e definizione
L’Om deriva dalla fusione dei fonemi della lingua sanscrita, scritta in caratteri devanāgarī: ओ (‘o’) e ँ (‘m’ nasale), traslitterati nelle lettere A, U e M:

La A rappresenta l’inizio, la nascita, la creazione, il principio primordiale e il creatore Brahma.
La U è il divenire, la strada, e il dio Vishnu.
La M indica la fine, la morte, il dio della distruzione Shiva.
Dunque, simbolicamente l’Om incarna l’energia divina, o Shakti, e le sue principali connotazioni: la creazione, la preservazione e la liberazione.
