The B-52s (precedentemente chiamati The B-52’s) è un gruppo new wave statunitense.

The B-52s (styled as The B-52’s prior to 2008) are an American new wave band, formed in Athens, Georgia in 1976. The original line-up consisted of Fred Schneider(vocals, percussion, keyboards), Kate Pierson (organ, keyboards, bass, vocals), Cindy Wilson (vocals, bongos, tambourine), Ricky Wilson (guitars, bass), and Keith Strickland (drums, guitars, keyboards, synthesizers, various instruments). Following Ricky Wilson’s death in 1985, Strickland switched full-time to guitar. The band subsequently added various musicians for their live shows. This included Sara Lee or Tracy Wormworth (bass), Zachary Alford or Sterling Campbell (drums, percussion) and Pat Irwin or Paul Gordon (keyboards & guitars).

Rooted in new wave and 1960s rock and roll, the group later covered many genres ranging from post-punk to pop rock. The “guy vs. gals” vocals of Schneider, Pierson, and Wilson, sometimes used in call and response style (“Strobe Light,” “Private Idaho”, and “Good Stuff”), are a trademark.

I Cocteau Twins sono stati un gruppo musicale scozzese formatosi a Grangemouth nel 1980 e noto per essere stato gli iniziatore del dream pop e dell’ethereal wave.[1]I membri originari erano Elizabeth Fraser (voce), Robin Guthrie (chitarra, drum machine), e Will Heggie, che verrà successivamente rimpiazzato dal poli-strumentista Symon Raymonde.

Sebbene la formazione abbia ricevuto riconoscimenti favorevoli da parte della critica, (La fanzine musicale Q magazine considera quella dei Cocteau Twins la formazione più ispirativa di tutti i tempi[2]), fu Elizabeth Frazer il membro che ottenne l’attenzione maggiore. La sua voce, a volte difficile da decifrare, risente l’influenza dellaglossolalia. Il recensore di Allmusic Ned Raggett descrisse la sua voce in questo modo: “parte del suo fascino è dovuta al modo in cui crea testi difficili da interpretare e così emotivamente affascinanti”

I Pixies sono un gruppo musicale alternative rock statunitense, formatosi a Boston, MA nel 1986 per volontà di Black Francis (voce e chitarra), Kim Deal (basso), David Lovering (batteria) e Joey Santiago (chitarra).

Considerata una delle band americane più importanti e influenti del rock alternativo della fine degli anni ottanta,i Pixies sono unanimemente riconosciuti tra i precursori di un particolare stile musicale che combina elementi di garage rock, noise, surf e power pop.

La loro popolarità crebbe ulteriormente soprattutto negli anni successivi al loro scioglimento, avvenuto nel 1993. Nel 2004, poi, la band si è di nuovo riunita per una serie di tour mondiali con grande successo di pubblico.

Co-founder Kim Deal (bass, backing vocals) left in 2013 and was replaced by Kim Shattuck as live bass player for a few months, then by Paz Lenchantin for the band’s 2014 tour. The Pixies achieved relatively modest popularity in their home country, but were significantly more successful in the United Kingdom, mainland Europe and Israel. The group disbanded in 1993 in acrimonious circumstances, but reunited in 2004. Despite limited commercial success, their jarring pop sound subsequently influenced bands such as Nirvana, Radiohead, The Strokes, Bush, Blur andWeezer.

The band’s style of music contains a range of elements, including psychedelia, noise pop, hard rock, surf pop, and surf rock. Black Francis is the Pixies’ primary songwriter and singer. He has written about a number of offbeat subjects in the band’s songs, such as extraterrestrials, surrealism, incest, and biblical violence.

The group is credited with having an influence on the alternative rock boom of the 1990s. The Pixies’ legacy and popularity grew in the years following their break-up, leading to sold-out world tours following their reunion in 2004. In June 2013, the band released their first new material in almost 10 years.
