Thich Nhat Hanh: Embracing the anger
I always advise couples to embrace the anger and look deeply into the nature of anger. Thus they may be able to transform that anger, even in just fifteen minutes or hours. If they can not do that, then tell the other person will suffer, who are angry, and they want the other to know.
They will try to put it in a calm way, “Dear (or expensive), I suffer, and I want you to know. I do not know why you have done such a thing. I do not know why you have said something like that. ” This is the first thing they should tell the other person. The second thing you can say or write is: “I’m doing my best.”
It means: I am embracing my anger, I am looking deeply into the nature of my anger. Tell the other person that you are practicing holding back anger, understanding anger, in order to find out if by chance that your anger comes from a misunderstanding, a wrong your perception, your lack of presence of a mental or a lack skill. And the third thing that you love him or love her is to say: “I need your help.” So helping the other to suffer less, to smile, make you happy too.
