“Se guardi l’asceta, puoi notare che la sua vita è diventata quasi come una non-vita, non è un meditatore. Gli asceti forse sono masochisti, si torturano godendo della tortura stessa. La mente è molto astuta, continua a fare cose razionalizzandole.
“Ordinariamente siete violenti verso gli altri ma la mente è scaltra – può imparare la non-violenza, predicare la non-violenza, e poi diventare violenta nei confronti di se stessa. E la violenza che fai contro te stesso viene rispettata dagli altri in quanto hanno l’idea che essere ascetico è essere religioso. Ma questo è un puro nonsenso. Dio non è ascetico – non ci sarebbero fiori altrimenti, né alberi verdi, solo deserto. Dio non è ascetico altrimenti non ci sarebbero canzoni nella vita, né danza – solo cimiteri e cimiteri. Dio non è ascetico, dio gioisce della vita, è più un Epicureo di quanto tu possa immaginare. Se pensi a dio, pensalo nei termini di Epicuro. Dio è in una costante ricerca di sempre più felicità, gioia, estasi. Ricordalo.
