Tao te ching L : Tenere in pregio la vita

Uscire è vivere, entrare è morire.
Seguaci della vita sono tre su dieci,
seguaci della morte sono tre su dieci,
gli uomini che la vita
tramutano in disposizione alla morte
son pur essi tre su dieci.
Per qual motivo?
Perché vivono l’intensità della vita.
Or io ho appreso che chi ben nutre la vita
va per deserti senza incontrar rinoceronti e tigri,
va tra gli eserciti senza indossar corazza e arme:
il rinoceronte non ha dove infilzare il corno,
la tigre non ha dove affondar l’artiglio,
il guerriero non ha dove immergere la spada.
Per qual motivo?
Perché costui non ha disposizione alla morte.

We go from birth to death.
Three out of ten follow life.
Three out of ten follow death.
People who rush from birth to death
Are also three out of ten.
Why is that so?
Because they want to make too much of life.
I have heard that the one who knows how to live
Can wander through the land
Without encountering the rhinoceros or the tiger.
He passes the battlefield
Without being struck by weapons.
In him, the rhinoceros finds no opening for its horn.
The tiger finds no opening for its claws.
The soldiers find no opening for their blades.
Why is that so?
Death has no place in him.
